April 2, 2008 Fuel Spill on I-81 Company 2 was dispatched for a tractor trailer MVA on I-81 northbound at MM 158. On the arrival of 251, it was advised the truck had rode on the side of the bridge and came to rest blocking both lanes. Upon the arrival of Wagon 2 and Squad 2, Company 3 and Company 4 was requested for man power and sta-dri. After applying sta-dri on an approximate 150 gallon spill all units cleared and returned to service.


March 9, 2008 2nd Fire in 2 Days At 23:54 Company 2 (second due) was dispatched along with Company 4 (first due) for a structure fire off Country Club Road. Lt. 2 arrived on scene to advise that there was smoke coming from the eves of the residence and established Country Club Command. Engine 2's crew assisted with fire attack along with opening up, and overhaul. Once the overhaul was complete, Command was terminated and all units were clear after operating for a little over an hour.


February 10, 2008 High Winds Create Fire Storm A strong cold front brought hurricane force winds to the area, knocking down power lines and sparking fires throughout the Roanoke Valley. Fire crews from all over Botetourt County responded to everything from trees fallen on cars, small grass fires, large forest fires and structure protection. During the firestorm nearly every fire unit in Botetourt County was committed to battling the flames. Troutville was dispatched to over 20 calls in the short amount of time and responded to fires in Troutville, Cloverdale, Daleville, Fincastle, Blue Ridge, Hollins, Mason's Cove and Montvale.


February 5, 2008 Tractor Trailer Fire On Interstate 81 An early morning tractor trailer accident and fire destroyed 38,000 lbs of chicken. Nobody was injured in the incident which closed the southbound side of Interstate 81 for hours. Troutville Wagon 2 arrived to find the tractor fully involved in fire with front of the trailer also becoming heavily involved. Tankers were requested from Company 3 and Company 4 while the crew from Wagon 2 began attacking the fire. Runoff from the fire was monitored and the Virginia Department of Emergency Services was contacted to respond. Although, the fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes, crews remained on scene for a couple of hours monitoring the scene. Fire and Rescue units on scene included Troutville Wagon 2 and Engine 2, Buchanan Tanker 3 and Wagon 3, Fincastle Tanker 4 and Engine 4, Read Mountain Wagon 12, Fincastle Rescue 457, Botetourt Emergency Services ES1 and ES2.



February 1, 2008 Troutville Fire Department Receives FEMA Grant The Troutville Fire Department received a $103,161.00 grant today through the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Program. The grant will be used to purchase diesel exhaust containment systems for our diesel vehicles, as well as a 100kv generator to power the station in the event of an emergency.
